Situated on an 11.5-acre farm a few miles outside of Philadelphia, the home’s design carefully balances rustic comfort and traditional formality. Archer & Buchanan Architecture, Ltd., called upon HLTF to design the timber frame portions of the project.
The timber frame construction of the central mass of the house allows for an expansive open gathering space where the homeowners can entertain friends and family. The Douglas Fir timbers were surfaced and sanded to give a rough appearance and then finished with a low VOC stain. The timber frame combines with reclaimed wood floor to add natural warmth to the great room reminiscent of a barn. Large timber framed porches at the rear of the house provide both visual and physical links between the indoors and outdoors.
